Loathing

Loathing:
Women have very little idea of how much men hate them, when men hate them, or why. A few men hate all women all of the time, some men hate some women all of the time, and all men hate some women some of the time.
The deeper the morass of misogyny through which we all have to wade the more vociferous the condemnation of anyone who dares to mention it. It is as easy to vilify women as man-haters, which they most emphatically are not, as it is difficult to challenge men on the grounds of their woman-hatred, which is real, pervasive and obvious. Any woman who points out the obvious fact that men hate women will herself be branded a man-hater who has brought men’s hatred upon herself.
“Let’s say I committed this crime… Even if I did do this, it would have to be because I loved her very much, right?” O. J. Simpson
There is no point in trying to establish reasons for men’s hatred of women because hatred is irrational. A woman trying to understand men’s cruelty to women is confronted again by a simple antipathy, which is what sexism means. Sexism is an antipathy to persons of the opposite sex, whether felt by men or women, but in fact felt by men.
Though all kinds of women are reviled as man-haters no woman has ever tortured a powerless man in the way that some men torture powerless women. Women do not have the vast vocabulary of insults for men that all men apply to women every day. Nothing that any Englishman can call anybody is worse than the word ‘cunt’. A ‘prick’ though contemptible is a lovesome chap by comparison. Men whether straight or gay revile ‘cunt’.
“Men do not beat women because of low self-esteem. They are not a fringe group of society with emotional problems that need to be pitied. There is no cycle. A man beats a woman for any reason. Not because she becomes ‘more assertive’. But because she is there, as a target, with anything used as an excuse”. Vique Martin
“Inconvenient as it may be, the reality is that one can have great sex with someone one neither loves nor likes; indeed under the right circumstances hatred is an effective aphrodisiac”. Dennis Altman
Men’s cruelty to women cannot be explained as simple aggression or even blind rage. The British Medical Association issued a report in July 1998 estimating that more than one in four British women experienced domestic violence, ranging from being punched, choked, bitten or raped, and recommended that all women patients be asked about their experience of domestic violence as is already done in the US. The same report noted that attacks on women were more likely when they were pregnant.
When any woman is killed the most likely suspect is the man she lives with. The death is usually the denouement of a long history of hatred, hatred that the brutalized woman interpreted as love gone awry.
Domestic violence is not simply a saga of broken bones and black eyes, of mayhem and fisticuffs. Violent partners also persecute their womenfolk with threats and insults, justify their savageries as provoked by the women themselves, and keep them in a state of terrified contrition.
It is in vain to wonder whether men would beat up on women less if women were more submissive or whether standing up for yourself would be a better strategy. Men bash women because they enjoy it; they torture women as they might torture an animal or pull the wings off flies or kick the supporter of an opposing team as he lies helpless on the ground, because they get off on it.
Better educated men get the same thrill from torturing their partners verbally, undermining their confidence, sneering at them, jerking them about emotionally. Once a woman finds herself in this sadistic cycle there is only one thing she can do. She cannot hope to wean her partner off his savage satisfactions, or blunt his sense of grievance, or get him to love her as she deserves. She can only leave him.
In most cases the woman is slow to sense the implacable hostility that looks at her out of her man’s eyes. Women are abused and harassed not by rampaging strangers but by men they see every day, men they thought they knew or men they thought they could ignore. Dig it! The man is not born who will not hate some woman on occasion. Odds on it will be the woman with the greatest claim on his love. The law and the police can do nothing to protect her as long as she persists in the fond delusion that what looks and feels like hatred is really love.
“Sometimes boys say really NASTY things about the way you look, talk or act. But believe it or not it could just be their way of telling you that they like you!” Shout magazine

Well Dawn.. my view of GG's view on men .. women anything thing in fact..is that she is plain crackers!
A gender terrorist and most definitely a fundamentalist man hater. She has her own version of suicide bombing!
Unfortunately this means that she will be dismmissed as a nutter. This is unfortunate because beneath all that hate.. she has a point worth making.
Perhaps she should go and live in Pakistan and she would get to know the real meaning of oppresion to women.. instead of raving away at how it is in the West. That's too easy.
For the record.. she is also wrong. I don't hate anybody any of the time!

Oh my gosh Rick; I feel all guilty now about posting Germain Greer's rant on my site! You are quite right about her fundamentalist, gender terrorist attitude. GG has been married, once I think for 24 hours.
There are 110,000 entries for Germain Greer on Google, so obviously what she says gets a reaction. Being outrageous of course draws more attention to her strident messages.
Germaine Greer, as well as being a veteran feminist is a Professor of English and Comparative Literature at Warwick University. Her books have been translated into many different languages.
Speaking on behalf of women bloggers, we all love you Rick!

Thank you Dawn and jojo for the kind remarks.
oooooooooo too much!! but very welcome nevertheless lol! BIG GRIN!
It is true though if GG got off her high horse (pun intended) and adopted a less poisonous syle then I think her comments would be more acceptable to more men.
Mind you, I wish I had a fiver for every time I heard a woman say "I hate men". They don't ususally mean that though. It is more often directed at one bloke in particular who has been a bastard to them!

Glad you've forgiven me Rick!
Both males and females hate those they fear, an emotion that's evident in violent situations.

Aw - he's just too darn nice Dawn!
It is unfortunate that her militant standpoint does alienate people from the points she is making. Hate is a way too over-used word in any case. Every single person is capable of a hate whether for a lifetime or a moment and it isn't simply the reserve of the misogynist. I'm not entirely sure I agree with her completely. I don't think cruelty is driven by hate all the time, it is often driven by fear and we don't necessarily hate the things we fear. Human emotion is far more complex than that.
However occasionally she does hit the nail on the head and one of her quotations that hit home with me was "Loneliness is never more complete than when it is felt in close propinquity with someone who has ceased to communicate" - which of course has nothing to do with the subject at hand but is at least an instance of when she gets it right!

I appreciate your comment and the points that you make jojo.
In Paris, Arab and African violence is driven by their hatred of the French - by poverty, unemployment, racial discrimination, crime and poor education and housing.
Bertrand Russell wrote Few people can be happy unless they hate some other person, nation or creed.

I wonder what makes men hate women and visa versa. and i judt dont mean the little stuff. I mean real loathing.Psychologists like to blame everything on childhood but is it possible that some people are just predisposed to violence? maybe that used to happen millions of years ago?
I personally abhor violence. i witnessed it as a child(back to childhood
, but seriously i just dont like anyone being hit or terrorised. I dont mean bomms i mean real terror as hummas understand in their core.

All violence is terrible and I'm sorry to hear that you witnessed it in childhood Phine.
Let's go back millions of years now for the bigger picture.
It has been depicted (imagined) that a brutish and ugly cavemen would club a female over the head and drag her off to his cave in order to have his evil way with her! In the beginning there was savagery; cavemen were hunters and scavengers who by natural selection (survival of the fittest) eventually attained the evolutionary state of barbarism.
Cultural Barbarism evolved in the use of pottery, domestication of plants and animals and then the use of iron tools. Genocide was apparently a common practice in ancient times. It is believed all the Neanderthal were deliberately eliminated, and pygmies were probably on everyone's hit list, perhaps the reason for the now-extinct Australian pygmies. Barbarity refers to savage brutality or cruelty in actions.
Countless other attempts at genocide have been made throughout the ages characterized by groups trying to eliminate each other. King Edward wanted to eliminate the Scots. Hitler tried to eliminate the Jews. America, Britain and Australia are trying to eliminate al Qaeda.
Civilization was attained when alphabets and writing were developed. Civilization refers to the scientific, artistic and cultural attainments of advanced societies. It also refers to the basic social order that allows people to resolve differences peaceably. One meaning of civilization is the opposite of barbarism.
If we believe in the evolutionary terms above - savagery > barbarism > civilization - then many people are still struggling to attain the earliest level of civilization, but with all the continuing violence, not very convincingly. Scratch the skin of disaffected youth today and you release pent up barbarity, a ticking time-bomb. Vegetating in a drug-fug is sub-human.
People who are not brutal Barbarians, phoney Philistines or the hoi polloi must be just like us, civilized and humane!

I didn't hate any women, but one women's irrational behaviour has satarted this sexist hatered in me.
Hi safriz
Thanks for your comment. I guess that's how wars of hatred start, with the first step being the cancerous, irrational behaviour of one person.
