Burning up with racial hatred more than 5000 xenophobic Anglo-Saxon Australians, went on the rampage at a Cronulla Beach Sydney, on Sunday 11 December. Anyone who had a brown face was attacked with fists, beer bottles, clubs and vitriol on the basis of their race, their appearance and their ethnicity. "Fuck off wogs and lebs (Lebanese)!" and similar taunts were shouted by drunken hooligans.
During the first night of retaliation at Cronulla, about 50 Middle Eastern males high on violence, smashed car windows and shop-fronts with baseball bats.
Last night violence began again when police tried to disperse a crowd of about 200 Muslim men gathered at Lakemba Mosque in south-west Sydney. Rocks and flares were hurled. In south Maroubra 30 molotov cocktails, crates of rocks, cricket bats, and iron bars have been confiscated.
Police have formed a task force to try to prevent a repeat of Sunday's riots.
Prime Minister John Howard described the mob bashings at Cronulla Beach as sickening and has expressed concern about a second consecutive night of violence in Sydney's south, but denied Australians were racist.
Meanwhile Australia is seen to have underlying racism, especially in Asia, which has strong memories of the White Australia policy.
With the British Commonwealth Games to be held in Melbourne Australia, 15 - 26 March, Howard will have an added incentive to arrest and prosecute gangs of rampaging youths of every hue.

surely Australia is In denial Dawn? everyone in australia except the aboriginals are immigrants. Thre was a boy in the papers who had written on his chest"we were born her, you flew over!" meaning the so-called lebs and whoever else. well, his forefathers got there on ships and proceeded to destroy the people they found there. It's arrogant for people with such a bad history to pretend like there are no problems and that its the "mid easterns who are the problem. Until australis face up to it's past, this is just the beginning. I can only imagine how the rest of the poeople feel. "France" is spreading all over. it's a pity really because such hooligans give a few good people a rotten name

As you say Australia is in denial. PM John Howard is like an ostrich with his head buried in the sand, if he would have us believe that there isn't a basic problem of assimilation with all the brown-faced races and the white faces.
On another front English colonists in Australia treated the Aboriginies disgracefully and the Australian government to date has done nothing to remedy this, and as little as possible to alleviate their poverty.

Oh yes, I am a December gal, but not until the 29th. I've also checked that my profile has the right date! The blog administrator has made an error in his html, but I shouldn't feel bad about being 6 days older than what I really am. Damn him, it's just that I don't know if I can grow old gracefully!
Back to the racism; it certainly appears to be a source of extreme hatred and violence on both sides. Premediatation of violence is truly fightening.

That's interesting Skip, but what have Aussies won other than some world sports awards and home grown awards for achievements in other ways? I presume you mean white Australians? They've certainly lost face world wide over the race riots.
However separatist gangs of predatory Arab Muslim males with highly misogynist attitudes have been prowling through the streets for years, so I've read.

I don't know if Ken aka Stringybark McDowell is due in NZ but you will not forget the name. If you see him billed anywhere try to get there because he does a version of Waltzing Matilda (new lyric by yours truly) that is very relevant to this situation.

How the hell are the Aussies the racists?
We were just trying to fight back because we were sick to death of us and our mates being bashed and our women raped because we're "aussie and not muslim."
It's completly fucked up to be scared of being an Australian in your own country.
I'm not saying that I condone going out there and bashing every bloke who looks like a wog or a leb, but something needed to happen.

Racism is a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule others.
Hatred, intolerance and paranoia are typical of the populace in most countries, when faced with immigrants practising different religious rites and cultural values?
